EXPERIMENT AND RESULTS

Contamination why does it plague me so,

Dampens my excitement and makes me feel low.

Start off with all care but falter along the line,

Oh yes! It makes you pay a huge fine.

It sure does add time to your degree,

There would be very few who would disagree.

The time is nigh, there is no point in fretting,

Those precious seconds are lost while regretting,

Sitting down and putting words to your worries –

Is but a futile venture, ‘cause it is action that speaks louder.

Make amends with haste, never losing site of your goal

Don’t let time go waste, don’t be a ham in life’s role.

Scietific writing head or heart

It can be a disastrous situation; a creative, emotional and highly art-oriented person embarking on a mission to write a scientific document. I love words almost to the extent of verbal diarrhea. However, beating around the bush, can be a tiresome thing, when it comes to reading and when the main aim of the literary work in question is to impart a clear view of one’s thoughts. Scientific writing is quite unlike a poetic creation, where ends are left loose for the peruser to tie personalized knots with. So how do you let an alien style manifest itself upon yourself? Obscurity has been the norm with my writing style for a long time now, so how do I shed the Invisibility Cloak to say the things I have to in not-so-many-words.

Observing with a very critical eye; I really tend to get carried away, with the future or with my aspirations to be more precise. This however, should not addle the basic facts; that can actually amount to plagiarism of the future! It’s more of a dressing up the facts for its Sunday mass. However, at the end of the story, the truth is never hidden from a logical mind. It takes a lot to resist this temptation, often times it is an unintentional mistake, nevertheless, the fines that need to be paid are quite high. It not the just your image that’s at stake, it’s the justice to science that’s a part of the wager too.

So what can the remedies be? Never make the mistake of inserting the references later, not only is it too tedious, it also pushes you towards ‘fabrication of facts’ mode. Putting in references acts a brake to make you stop and wonder if you are still within the confines of scientific verity. It doesn’t curb your flow of thought, rather makes you more critical and gets you closer to the ever-elusive perfection. Another way to do quality control of any scientific presentation is to start early, it is always easier to make amends when you have ample amount of time at hand; it’s a cliché but it is effective.

Tough job, like a drastic fashion make-over, nevertheless the fruits of this tedious endeavor promise to be delectable (if sweet is not what you like).
